Any device that runs well with Froyo should run even better with Gingerbread – Brian Swetland (Android developer)
A lot of folks, enquiring with Android device manufacturers, have been told that they need a 1GHz processor at minimum to run the Android 2.3 OS. Actually, the 1 GHz processor requirement is just a FUD technique by device manufacturers wanting you to buy their new devices. Their motivation stems from the fact that they need to generate revenues to survive, and a more practical supply issue.
You see, old slower processor stock is getting exhausted, and the processor manufacturers have moved onto producing more powerful versions. So new devices have to use the more powerful processors, and to generate revenue from new device sales the companies have to make you buy them.
